M Lourdes Garcia MD PhD
Dr. Garcia is an American Board certified Ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of eye disorders. She is also an Assistant Professor at EVMS, participating in the training of Ophthalmology residence.
Dr Garcia received a Ph.D. degree in Vision Sciences from the Institute of Applied Biology in Ophthalmology at the University of Valladolid in Spain and then continued her studies in the US.
She received Fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Genetic Eye Disorders at the Cleveland Clinic. This included elective training in Neuro-Ophthalmology from the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University. After a Transitional Internship at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, VA, Dr Garcia completed an Ophthalmology Residency at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Dr Garcia has authored numerous papers, given international presentations, and is the co-author on a textbook on genetic disorders and the eye. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Medical Society of Virginia.
She is fluent in English and Spanish.
Dr Garcia likes to spend her free time with her two children Luke and Anna, and her husband Mark. She enjoys hiking, cycling and the outdoors.
